Market for Learning

Market for Learning
This project, focuses on promoting wider access and participation in life long learning. The project will be delivered over the next two years, by Gloucestershire County Council Economic Development Unit, in partnership with the Learning Partnership, Next Steps, Adult Education, Business Links, Business in the Community, Gloucestershire Market Towns Forum and Gloucestershire Rural Community Council.

Market for Learning will work with key market towns to develop and implement local learning plans. The project will then look at ways of promoting learning and engaging new learners in a range of opportunities that will build skill capacity in market towns.

The project will:

  • Develop learning plans in key market towns
  • Identify learning resources that town centre partnerships might work with
  • Promote or develop existing and new learning opportunities in Market Towns
  • Promote progression onto training that meets skill needs in market towns
  • Provide individual learning opportunities through tasters, Information, Advice and guidance, skills for life support and vocational training through key partners and local providers
  • Work with partnerships to evaluate need for and impact of learning initiatives

In Partnership with the Guidance for Learning or Work project led by nextstep individuals and employers will have access to training and skills assessments and training needs analysis.

Outcomes - The project will seek to:

  • Support 150 learners to achieve at least two NVQ units at level two or 3
  • Provide 50 SMEs with skills audit and learning information

Priorities:

The project will particularly focus on supporting SMEs and their employees and building capacity in the 7 key Market Towns. The areas to be included are:

  • Cinderford, Coleford , Lydney and Newent MCTI areas include a hinterland that encompasses the wider area that is coterminous with that of the Forest of Dean District Council

It will also similarly support learning opportunities and disseminate good practice to the other 9 Market Town members in the Gloucestershire Market Towns Forum, who are actively involved in the community planning process.
